The band years ยท Warped Tour

The Fold.

Years after my first band, PGS, fell apart, my friend Matt Pittman asked me to tag along with him and The Fold as they set out on a US tour.

I said “yes,” and the rest became history.

“Bye Bye Love.”

I'd helped concept and pitch in on the production of the band's Neverender video, but Bye Bye Love was the first time I got to fully sit in the director's seat, with the incredible Aaron Green on cinematography.

For the concept, of course I was going to reach for some aspect of time, or time travel. This one landed on a father watching his daughter grow up too fast, and losing her to it. It came together great. That's his real daughter in the younger scenes, and an actress we cast as older Lucy.

My dream now is to reshoot the “older Lucy” scenes with his real daughter, now that she's almost 18. That's the day this video is finally complete.

The Warped Tour

A spot on the stage.

Playing the Warped Tour was the kind of thing you put on a list before you knew it could happen. Then it did.

The Cubs song

A song the whole city heard.

The Fold submitted a song to a Cubs song contest, and it won. For the next two years it played in Cubs commercials on TV and radio all over Chicago. I cut this video together using the track, back before the Cubs had actually won anything.

The video series

Five Best Friends, and one Sad Banana.

We made a goofy little video series called Five Best Friends. It spun off a breakout star of its own: the Sad Banana, who closes out the series below.

The Fold today

From Warped Tour to Ninjago.

These days The Fold has grown into something none of us saw coming: children's music. They perform Weekend Whip, the official LEGO Ninjago theme song, which even flew them out to LA for the movie premiere. From a Warped Tour stage to a red carpet, the band just keeps finding new rooms to play.
