Martin Creative · Conversion copywriting

One sentence, before & after.

The idea

Say what you do in one clear sentence.

Most companies bury the one thing a visitor needs to hear under something clever or vague. Say a company's value in a single clear sentence and everything speeds up: product-market fit, trust, and profit. The rewrites above and below are all the same move, made real.

It starts with the customer, not the company. Who they are, what they're actually trying to do, and the exact words they'd use for it. Then the first sentence gets rewritten to meet them there. That's the whole job, and it tends to pay for itself faster than anything else on a page.

A working principle

The Buffalo Approach.

Use every piece of content to its fullest. If we spend the time and money to film something, meet up, or do anything live, we pull everything we possibly can out of it.

The name comes from how Native Americans used every part of the buffalo, wasting nothing. One shoot becomes a commercial, a set of social clips, stills, quotes, and a story. None of the effort that went into making the thing gets left on the floor.

A pet peeve

Please stop telling me to “stay in the know.”

It's everywhere, and it's lazy. Nobody is walking around thinking “man, I really want to be more in the know.” It isn't a real, direct benefit to anyone. There are a hundred better reasons to follow, subscribe, or join something, so reaching for “stay in the know” just tells me no one thought about why a person would actually want in.

Exhibit A through however-many. Every one of these is a place I've watched this phrase show up.

"Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild "Stay in the know" spotted in the wild

Worth every word

One sentence can move the whole business.

This is the work I get paid well to do, and it tends to pay for itself faster than anything else on the page. If your first sentence isn't earning its keep, let's fix it.
