I showed up to art school not totally sure what I was doing. I left knowing how to build, present, and stand behind an idea. Years later the school asked me back to send the next class off into the world. Standing at that podium, looking out at people right where I'd been, was one of the honors of my life.

That commencement speech had a second life. My TEDx talk was originally written for the Art Institute's graduating class, so a piece of art school rode right along into the talk itself. This slide is from that presentation.

A student project that took on a life of its own. It went viral and passed a million views on YouTube before it was pulled for copyright infringement in 2021.
The assignment was to make a music video. I picked "Creep," but Richard Cheese's swinging lounge version of it, and asked my friend Scottish (you'll spot him again in the birthday videos and a wedding video) to be my main star. And if the background looks familiar to anyone who grew up around Chicago, yes, that is indeed Kiddieland.
